Clients at Healing Pines’ Colorado substance abuse counseling programs spend time with horses, lamas, goats and other animals, as well as contributing time to animal shelters. We also offer Equine Therapy, a type of Animal-Assisted Therapy in which patients have guided interactions with the horses facilitated by a professional. Working with animals is not only fun, it’s a healing activity that supports key life skills such as accountability, responsibility, confidence, self-control, and problem-solving.
Horticultural therapy improves memory, cognitive abilities, task initiation, language skills, and socialization. Our program focuses on getting clients outside and working with their hands. Gardening, or horticultural therapy, is a mindfulness exercise that promotes peace of mind and mental clarity. It’s also an enjoyable activity that enhances a person’s well being and supports an environment of sustained recovery.
Exercise and Nutrition
We believe that balanced nutrition and exercise are the cornerstones of a lasting recovery. A healthy diet supports a feeling of well-being and helps to regulate mood. Exercise increases energy and enhances mood to help our clients remain positive throughout recovery. For our clients, developing a healthy brain and body is key to becoming the best they can be, in recovery and in life.
